Chatham Manor

Today’s post is a group of photos I took at Chatham Manor in Fredericksburg. While this estate is beautiful, if has a history that was very ugly at times. It was an active plantation for many years. It was also used as a makeshift hospital during the Civil War. Author Walt Whitman decided to help wounded Civil War soldiers as a nurse after visiting in search of his injured brother. Clara Barton was also stationed here during this time. There are several informational displays and a video about the history of the manor all throughout the interior.
