What some people may not know about me is that I have been horribly afraid of bears for most of my life. Being raised in the foothills of the Adirondacks, I saw wild bears frequently growing up. I would cry every time I saw one, and I couldn’t even look at them in zoos until a few years ago.
Since I have feared them for so long, I have a very healthy respect for them. This fear/respect has evolved into a great fascination. I am attempting to get better about responding to these animals in a more reasonable fashion. Seeing this bear at Maymont Park certainly helped. While I was watching him, he was splashing in the water and even blowing bubbles! It was great to see a lighter side to these creatures!
More information about Maymont’s bears can be found here.
Some of the pictures have a slight haze from shooting through the fence, but I enjoy them either way! I hope you like them too.
