York River State Park
York River State Park is near the Virginia Coast (the York River eventually empties into the Chesapeake Bay). This park has a combination of fresh and salt water, as well as a well maintained trail system. It is definitely worth a visit!
Lewis Gitner Botanical Garden
The Lewis Gitner Botanical Garden is an estate located in Herico, Virginia. There are several areas on the grounds with different setups including a conifer garden and garden filled with water filtering plants. Pocahontas State Park
Pocahontas State Park is located in Chesterfield County, Virginia. In addition to an extensive trail network, there is also a campground, a nature center and a Civilian Conservation Corps museum. Main Street Station
The Main Street Station in Downtown Richmond was opened back in 1901. There have been several disasters here but the station still stands. It is a very recognizable landmark and a great place for photos.
Maymont
Maymont is a 100-acre estate in Richmond that has a nature center, wildlife exhibits, a farm, several gardens and a historic mansion. There is a small fee to enter the nature center and mansion, and there is a suggested donation for the wildlife and farm exhibits. Richmond Slave Trail
The Richmond Slave Trail is a pedestrian path through the city that mirrors the path slaves took once they arrived in America. It starts at Ancarrow’s Landing and ends at the First African Baptist Church. Along the trail you also pass the Reconciliation Statue, Lumpkin’s Slave Jail and the African Burial Ground.
